Bates has a strong connection to Children’s Hospital – his own son Andy was diagnosed with a terminal illness, and survived it thanks to treatment and care received at the hospital. Bates wants to be sure that all parents and children have access to groundbreaking research and care. The full story of the event is available at Wicked Local Brookline.

As her project while leading Landmark's Self-Expression and Leadership Programme, Olivia Seery is raising €5,000 for Irish Children's charity Barnardos, through a sponsored hike up Mount Kilimanjaro.

Olivia Seery’s concern for the presence of peace in an open world where all people experience beauty, dignity and freedom has her committed to raising €5,000 for Ireland’s largest children’s charity, Barnardos. This project is part of Landmark Education’s Self-Expression Programme which she leads in Ireland. What she is taking on is to climb Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, next September. She has titled her project ‘Back to Africa for Ireland’s children’.

During the 1970′s, Olivia spent almost three years in Africa, and one of her five children was born there, so it is a joy for her to revisit that Continent. She is, however, acutely aware that not many women of her age would dare take on that massive task. If you wish to donate to this great cause please follow this link to Barnardos.

Their photographs were then framed and given to the kids on their April 12th Arts Day.

Kirsner, an award winning photographer who works coordinating events at the research center, is passionate about the difference photography makes:

“Every time I’m photographing, I’m happy and I get outside of myself. I want to share that passion with the students and experience the possibilities of healing and joy.”

The project created in Landmark Education’s SELP by Dr. Richard Schectman is a free seminar for men dealing with divorce and separation. Titled ‘New Horizons’, and taking place on March 23 at the Westchester Jewish Community Services office in White Plains, NY, the event will feature information and guidance from a panel of experts.

“Having gone through the divorce process I recognized an unmet need for men,” says Schechtman. He notes that women often have well developed social networks to fall back on during a divorce or separation, while men can be more isolated.

The speakers at the event include a psychologist and divorce mediator, a matrimonial attorney, a rabbi and a marriage therapist. Attendees can also network with other men at the event.

The event will run from 7-9pm at the WJCS office on 845 North Broadway. Admission is free but seating is limited – for reservations or more information contact Susan Kronish at 914 761-0600 x147 or email her at skronish@wjcs.com.

Night of a 100 Stars is a family fun day and fashion show, where ordinary kids get to be models, while proceeds benefit sick kids. It combines Metcalf’s passion for kids fashion and making a difference.

Five years ago, Metcalf created Urban Kidz, a boutique retailer of unique kids clothing. Urban Kidz donates 10% of its proceeds to a variety of charities. Night of 100 Stars came about as a way to help Room for Joy, an organization which creates personalized and health conscious dream rooms for chronically sick children. The first event raised $11,000 for Room for Joy.

To vote for Night of 100 Stars in the context, go to AZ Central, click on Kids & Family, and vote.

The project Phil Sidebottom created in Landmark Education’s Self-Expression and Leadership programme has blossomed to where the Ronald McDonald House for ill children in Parkville, Melbourne, has been completely refurbished, with about $250,000 worth of materials donated by the community to make it happen.

Sidebottom said that only a tiny percentage of donations came in the form of cash. When he approached the Williamstown Rotary Club for assistance, he was amazed by the overwhelming response.

“It’s fantastic to be around these amazing people,” he said.

Timber companies donated wood; a real estate company did the project design; demolition companies cleared the site at no charge. Canvas, a barbecue, and carpentry services were all provided at no cost.

“I’m sitting at my desk grinning like a Cheshire cat,” said Sidebottom in an article in the Hobson Bay Leader.

Black Sea Futures is a project created in Landmark Education's SELP class to raise money so poorer Turkish students can have access to higher education.

Per Holmgren leads Landmark Education’s Self Expression and Leadership Programme. In that programme, he created ‘Black Sea Futures’, an opportunity for people to contribute to the education of disadvantaged Turkish youths.

Specifically, Holmgren’s group seeks to raise money for poor students in Zonguldak, Turkey, to have access to higher education. In Turkey, according to Black Sea Futures, public education runs through age 15, at which point money is needed for extra schooling to pass tests for higher education. Black Sea Futures seeks £300 per student for tuition and books.
