Amit Rana’s project in the Landmark Education SELP program involved creating the Chicago South Asian Film Festival (CSAFF), which took place October 1-3 at the Chicago Cultural Center and other nearby locations. The city has long been home to a variety of film festivals, but nothing like this has ever taken place here before – according to Chicago Public Radio, the festival’s eclectic variety of films doesn’t fit ‘Bollywood’ stereotypes.
As Rana described it to WBEZ 91.5, “It’s very realistic kind of hard-hitting movies about the perspectives of South Asians, and what are they actually experiencing in terms of their life and opinions and everything.” Continue reading 'Cultural Center Hosts First Chicago South Asian Film Festival'»
Michael Brown writes on Landmark Education’s Facebook page that his project in the self-expression and leadership program is to get desperately needed medical assistance to Khasim Burton, the son of Brown’s friend Michael Burton.

The Daily Herald newspaper of suburban Chicago is highlighting the Landmark Self-Expression and Leadership Program project of Kara Cermak and her employees to allow community residents to take part in beautifying four properties.
Cermak is the owner of 37-year old family company Rowell, Inc., which manages about 30 different home and condo complexes in the Chicago suburbs. Cermak and Rowell are inviting residents – including renters, owners and village officials – to take part in the ‘Pay it Forward’ planting project created in the Landmark program, planting bushes, trees and perennials and causing connections in the community.
Getting people involved and connected to one another is one of the main goals of the project, according to Rowell assistant manager Christine Cott. Hanover Part police officers have taken up on that idea at one of the work sites, taking part in the planting to build better relations with the community.
