Amy Reiss Levitt created a project in Landmark Education’s Self-Expression and Leadership Program to raise $20,000 to fight Celiac Disease, money that would specifically go to the The Celiac Disease Center in Columbia and the Healthy Villi Group. She notes that three million people in the United States are affected by the disease, but 97% are undiagnosed. The two organizations she is supporting helped restore her to normal health, as she herself has the disease.
To begin to raise the $20,000, she teamed up with over 40 partners from the Silpada Designs jewelry business and put on a week long fundraiser in March – all of them gave a portion of their sales proceeds to the two organizations. She wasn’t done yet – Amy has continued to fundraise through the Silpada network to reach the $20,000 goal, and has committed to making her fundraiser an annual event.
