Taking Care of Caregivers
Bari Faye Siegel has created a special event to honor those who take care of elderly people with memory related illnesses. Her project that she created in Landmark Education’s Self-Expression and Leadership Program is the 25th Hour, an event taking place Saturday, June 23 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at Brandywine Senior Living in Howell, New Jersey. The event isn’t limited to professional caregivers – it’s meant for family and friends who take care of loved ones as well.
“I wanted to create an event that was one hour for caregivers to not be thinking about caregiving. This is a time for them to be thinking about themselves, caring for themselves,” said Siegel, who was a caregiver for her own grandmother, who had Alzheimer’s disease. “The one telltale sign of being a caregiver is when you put yourself last.”
Comedian Matt Bridgestone will perform at the event, while Patty Lang will be the keynote speaker. To find out more information or to participate, email firstname.lastname@example.org. Hat tip for the story to Tri-Town News.
