Rhode Island Holds Music Festival Against Hunger

Sing Out Against Hunger, the Musical fundraiser for the hungry in Rhode Island formed by Jane Bitto in her Self-Expression and Leadership program back in 2003, is still going strong as an annual fundraiser/foodraiser. This year’s festival will be held on September 7th to 9th. The Providence Journal mentioned the event:

Singing Out Against Hunger: Evelyn’s Drive-In will host the sixth annual Singing Out Against Hunger (SOAH) Friday, Saturdayand Sunday. The event includes free live music and fundraising to fill the local East Bay food banks. Canned goods will be collected, raffles will be held and donations will be accepted to raise the most money possible. Musicians will be held at three locations — Evelyn’s Drive-In and Coastal Roasters, Main Road, and the Little Compton Community Center, the Commons, Little Compton.

All of SOAH’s canned goods and raised money stays in Rhode Island’s East Bay community. This helps to support local individuals and families in need. Besides the SOAH committee, the many volunteers and more than 60 musicians who support the cause, SOAH has support from more than 250 local businesses that donate time, money and raffle and auction items.

Mexico Project Reunites Sisters, Causes Exhibition

Soledad Medina Calvoy designed a project in Landmark Education’s SELP program which made a difference close to home–In her own family–With someone far away. Soledad’s sister Ale Medina is a photographer from Mexico, and Soledad got a gallery organized for her sister to have her own photography exhibit in Soledad’s home city of London.

The exhibition was held August 12, at which many of her sister’s photographs were displayed put up for sale. Shown below are some of the photographs from the exhibit.

Mad for Organic Wine Group Aids Project Trust

Gwyn Jones enjoys both wine and making a difference. When he took Landmark’s Self-Expression and Leadership Programme, having an organic wine tasting that also served as a fundraiser for a good cause was a natural choice for his project. The event was held at the Adam and Eve Cafe in Bournemouth, which also promoted the event, on July 23 at 7pm. The Bournemouth Tourism website promoted the event–The the text from the site appears below.

MAD Crowd’s First Event

MAD (Making a Difference) Crowd is a community of people in Dorset who care about the future we are creating and the community we live in. Mad Crowd meet socially to have fun and exchange ideas about how we can live more sustainably and give something back.

Wine tasting starts at 7:30pm prompt. The price of £10 per person will include canapés courtesy of Adam & Eve’s café and food store and the chance to experience some wines and wise words from vintage roots organic wines.

A raffle will be taking place on the night to support project trust charity with prizes including local delights from Adam & Eve’s café & food store along with a few bottles of wine.

Health Checkups for Seniors

When Chetan KS took the landmark education self expression and leadership programme in Bangalore, India, he wanted to do something that provided for the health of seniors. And rather than have them visit a doctor or health practice, something that isn’t always convenient for seniors, he brought the doctors to them.

On August 16, he held a health camp for seniors at the Chisthu Seva Samaja ashram/old age home. There were more children in the Ashram, and they got health checkups too–More than 40 seniors and 80 children took part. Not only did the participants receive free checkups and medicine, but they also were served free fruits and dinner.

For Chetan KS, the highlight of the event was when all the seniors blessed and prayed for him, his friends and his family prior to their dinner together. The project was such a success that it received the attention of two local newspapers on August 18 – The Sanjevani and The Thina Sudar.
